Abstract
Estimating the satellite link signal level is not an easy task as it requires thorough consideration of losses, attenuation, complex calculations and repeated analysis in determining the best design parameters. In estimating satellite signal level, we need to have a structured or systematic approach. For beginners in satellite communications, the estimation can be an exhaustive and a complex activity. Without careful attention, we may miss some important aspects of the estimation. Therefore, a tool that can facilitate the estimation in a simple manner is needed. Such tool would also promote interactive learning amongst students not only the theories in the subject, but also the analysis part of the satellite communication link design process. The purpose of this paper is to design a software tool that is aimed to promote better estimation of the signal level. The software, with design module, is targeted to facilitate analytical aspects of all important parameters of the satellite communication link starting from the uplink to the downlink. The outcome of this research is a Simulink® Model for research or educational purposes.
