Biodiesel has become more popular and more attractive renewable resource because of its environmental benefits. Biodiesel is produced mainly from renewable biological sources such as vegetable oils/ animal fats triglycerides is the replacement for hydrocarbon based diesel fuels. Various plants that produce non-edible oils can be considered for biodiesel production such as Madhuca Indica (Mahua) ,Jatropha curcas(Ratan Jyot), Pongamia pinnata (Karanja), Soapnut (Sapindus mukorossi) and Melia azadirachta (Neem), Sesame (Sesamum Indicum),Tung (Vernicia Montana ) etc., are easily available in developing countries and are very economical comparable to edible oils. In this paper, one plant species, sesame (Sesamum Indicum) are discussed as newer sources of oil for biodiesel production. This review paper integrates about the different tree borne oilseeds, extraction of oil, biodiesel processing methods.
